چکیده

We present the first measurement of reconstructed jets in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions. Utilizing the large coverage of the STAR Time Projection Chamber and Electromagnetic Calorimeter, we apply several modern jet reconstruction algorithms and background subtraction techniques and explore their systematic uncertainties in heavy ion events. The differential spectrum for inclusive jet production in central Au+Au collisions at √ sNN = 200 GeV is presented. In order to assess the jet reconstruction biases, this spectrum is compared with the jet cross section measured in √ s = 200 GeV p+p collisions scaled by the number of binary N-N collisions to account for nuclear geometric effects.

Modeling Magnetic Field in Heavy ion Collisions Using Two Different Nuclear Charge Density Distributions

By studying the properties of matter during heavy-ion collisions, a better understanding of the Quark-Gluon plasma is possible. One of the main areas of this study is the calculation of the magnetic field, particularly how the values of conductivity affects this field and how the field strength changes with proper time. In matching the theoretical calculations with results obtained in lab, two diffe...

Ultra-peripheral Heavy Ion Collisions at Star

Ultra-peripheral heavy ion collisions involve long range electromagnetic interactions at impact parameters larger than twice the nuclear radius, where the strong nucleon-nuecleon interactions are uneffective. We present recent results from the STAR collaboration on these ultra-peripheral interactions likes incoherent 0 ρ production in deuteron-gold collisions and interferometry in gold-gold col...

Photoproduction in Ultra-Peripheral Heavy Ion Collisions at STAR

We present recent STAR results on photoproduction in ultra-peripheral relativistic heavy ion collisions. In these collisions the impact parameter of the beam particles is larger than the sum of their nuclear radii, so that they interact via their long-range Coulomb fields. STAR has measured the production of ρ(770) mesons in exclusive reactions as well as in processes with mutual nuclear excita...

Charm Production at RHIC

Observations by the PHENIX and STAR collaborations suggest that a strongly coupled quark-gluon plasma is produced in heavy-ion collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). After a brief introduction to heavy-ion physics, measurements of heavy-quark production in heavy-ion collisions and the modification of heavy-quark spectra by the QGP are presented. Measurements of the total char...

Fluctuations and Correlations in STAR

The study of correlations and fluctuations can provide evidence for the production of the quarkgluon plasma (QGP) in relativistic heavy ion collisions. Various theories predict that the production of a QGP phase in relativistic heavy ion collisions could produce significant event-by-event correlations and fluctuations in, transverse momentum, multiplicity, etc. Some of the recent results using ...
